The University of Limerick honoured its first master's graduates from an immersive software engineering programme in Limerick on 24 August 2026. The course was co-designed with Stripe and other technology companies.

What happened

The programme marks its first graduating class since being established at UL. It was designed in partnership with industry, with Stripe identified as a co-designer by RTÉ.

Silicon Republic described the course as immersive engineering and said it was developed with major technology companies. RTÉ reported that the graduates were the first master's students to complete the pioneering software engineering programme.

The reports did not give the size of the graduating class or details of the students' next roles.

Why it matters

The programme gives UL a direct link to technology employers in the design of postgraduate engineering education. For companies, that arrangement offers a way to shape the skills taught to prospective hires before they enter the workforce.

The first graduating class provides an early test of a model that puts a technology company inside the design of a university course. Its significance will depend on graduate outcomes and whether the partnership continues beyond this cohort.
