We’re students. This is a small site.

TechFramer is put together by a group of college students in Ireland. We write about technology and business, mostly for the kind of Irish company that never gets written about.

Why we started it

Most technology writing is aimed at people who already work in technology. If you run a builder’s merchant in Athlone with nine staff, a story about a new AI model tells you nothing you can act on. The questions you actually have are duller and harder: does this change how I quote a job, does it change what I pay someone to do, is my competitor going to be using it next year.

Almost nobody writes that down for Irish businesses. That gap is what we’re trying to write into. We get it wrong sometimes. We’d rather be useful than authoritative.

What we cover

Mostly Irish small and medium businesses, and the technology that reaches them: software people actually buy, the cost of it, EU rules that land on companies here, and the parts of the wider tech industry that have a real consequence for someone operating in Ireland.

We cover the bigger picture too, but only where we can say who in Ireland it affects and how. “An American company shipped a thing” is not a story we have any business telling.

What we don’t do

  • Gadget reviews, deals, and listicles.
  • Rewritten press releases.
  • Stories whose only source is a social media post.
  • Predictions about what technology will do to the economy by 2030.

We are not a newsroom. We have no reporters, no office, and no funding. Treat what we write as informed reading, not as reporting from inside the companies we cover.

How we handle sources

Every article lists the sources it was built from, at the bottom, by name. If a claim came from a company announcement, a regulator, a filing or a named publication, you can see that and go check it yourself.

Social posts are a lead, never the source. If we can’t stand a story up outside of social media, we drop it rather than publish it with a hedge.

Who runs this, and our other projects

TechFramer is not a company. It is a side project run by a group of college students in Ireland. Nobody pays us to write anything here, and we do not run advertising or sponsored posts.

Some of us build other websites and products. When a story here touches something we have a hand in, we say so in a disclosure box at the top of that article, every time, whether or not the piece is flattering. If you ever find a story about one of our own projects without that box on it, we have made a mistake and we want to hear about it.

When we get something wrong

Email hello@techframer.ie. We’ll fix it, and note what changed at the bottom of the article rather than quietly editing it. If you run an Irish business and think we’ve described your world badly, that’s the most useful mail we can get.
